For those young people who are interested in being a part of Hands in Harmony, the group screens for new members yearly. Although Hands in Harmony is a performance group, no performance skills are evaluated during the screening. A basic vocabulary and knowledge of sign is essential in preparation for the screening, as membership in the group is based on an interest in sign language, the ability to form the signs accurately so they can be easily read, the ability to retain a vocabulary, and then in turn, to be able to put the signs to music.
Young people who are interested in sign and do not have a sign background may enroll in the classes given by Hands in Harmony's sign language instructor, Tina Warren. For those young people who have previously had sign classes or already have an extensive sign background, special classes are also provided as a review.
Once a young person becomes a member of the group, he/she receives training in stage presence, choreography, and performance proficiency.
For additional information or to sign up for the sign language classes, contact Tina Warren at (307) 635-8548 or Martha Borgaard at (307) 632-2685. |
